Eink Mode v2.3.5

Introducing "Settings Tags": Allowing Each Device to Use Its Own Settings

In this update, we are launching a brand new feature called "Settings Tags." You can name a set of settings and save it as a tag, allowing each device to use its own suitable settings; each device will also remember the last selected tag.

Why Do We Need It

The original cloud synchronization of E Ink Mode only allowed one set of settings per account. This is convenient for a single device, but as soon as you have more than one device, problems arise: a desktop's large screen is suitable for two columns, wide margins, and slightly smaller font sizes; a mobile phone is suitable for a single column, narrow margins, and larger fonts; and an E Ink reader requires even more attention to contrast and font weight. Applying the same settings to three devices will definitely result in two of them being compromised.

The result is a dilemma: either keep synchronization on and be affected by the settings changed on the previous device every time you switch devices, or turn off synchronization altogether, but then each device has to be adjusted from scratch, especially when switching to a new device.

"Settings Tags" are designed to resolve this dilemma. You can save the settings adjusted for your desktop as "Desktop," the settings for your mobile phone as "Mobile," and the settings for your E Ink reader as "E Ink." Then, each device can simply select its own tag. Cloud synchronization continues to work as usual, because the tags themselves are associated with the account, so when you log in on a new device, you can directly select a ready-made tag to apply without having to readjust everything one by one.

How to Use

Suppose you want to save the settings of your E Ink reader as a tag:

  1. First, make sure you are logged in and that cloud synchronization is enabled (the settings tags exist in the cloud, so these two conditions are necessary). If you don't have an account yet, please check the Early Supporter Benefits below; there are extra perks for registering now!
  2. After entering E Ink Mode, open the Function Panel and select "Settings".
  3. Adjust this device to your desired appearance—theme, background color, margins, single or double column, font size, line height, font weight, font type, etc., until you are satisfied.
  4. Return to the "Page" tab in settings, and at the top is "Settings Tags". Click on the "Manage" button on the right.
  5. Enter the name for this set of settings in the name field (for example, "E Ink"), and click "Add Tag". The current settings will be saved as this tag and immediately applied to this device.

After that, any adjustments made to the settings on this device will be saved directly to this tag, without needing any additional saving actions, and it will not affect other devices.

When switching to another device:

  1. Log in with the same account, enter E Ink Mode, and open "Settings".
  2. In the dropdown menu at the top of the "Page" tab, select the tag you want to use.
  3. The screen will reapply the settings of that tag, and this device will remember this choice from now on.

If you want to rename or delete, you can do so in "Manage": each tag has "Rename" and "Delete" options on the right. If you do not want to use any custom tags, select "Default" in the dropdown menu to return to the original shared settings.

A Few Reminders

  • "Default" does not count against your quota. It is the built-in, non-deletable shared settings that you have been using before enabling this feature. After the membership system goes live, Pro members can customize 3 additional tags, and Ultimate members can customize 6; this means the actual switchable combinations are 4 for Pro and 7 for Ultimate.
  • Tags cover page reading settings. Theme and light/dark background colors, top/bottom/left/right margins, single/double column, font size, line height, font weight, font type, system interface font size and type, auto full screen, hyperlink behavior, furigana, etc., will all follow the tags.
  • Interface language, custom font lists, and shortcuts remain globally shared and do not switch with tags—these are usually "your preferences," not "the layout needs of this device."
  • Each device remembers its own tags. Changing tags on your phone will not affect the tags being used on your desktop.
  • Be cautious when deleting tags. If there are other devices using the tag you delete, that device will automatically revert to the "Default" settings the next time it reads.

Early Supporter Benefits: Register by the End of September for Permanent Access to 6 Tags!

The paid membership plan for E Ink Mode has not officially launched yet. For those who have been with us in developing this product, we want to express our gratitude—users who register for an E Ink Mode account by the end of September 2026 will permanently have the same tag quota as Ultimate members, which is 6 custom tags (plus the "Default" that does not count against the quota, totaling 7 switchable tags).

This benefit recognizes the account's "registration" time, not the installation time. If you are already using E Ink Mode but have not registered an account, we recommend completing the registration within this month. Registration is free, and using settings tags requires you to be logged in. The quota will be tied to your account, so no matter which device you switch to or if you later upgrade to a paid plan, it will always follow you.

What Will Happen Next

Next month, E Ink Mode will see a few things: v3.0.0 major version update, and Pro and Ultimate paid membership plans will officially launch.

The focus of the paid plans will be on two things: making reading easier and allowing you to integrate what you read more smoothly into your workflow—keeping the content you finish, organizing it, and bringing it to the places you already use, rather than letting it scatter after reading. We will provide complete details when it officially launches.

The current free features will not disappear. Improvements like settings tags for cross-device reading experiences will continue to be refined as the foundation of E Ink Mode.

We hope this new feature will make your reading experience across multiple devices as comfortable as possible.
